It is natural to feel anxiety when we face a crisis, the unknown or a sudden change. The covid 19 has become a global pandemic, which has closed borders, industries, schools, airports, and with a considerable number of infections and daily deaths worldwide, it is a normal reaction that we feel we are not in control of the situation. We feel that the need for security, certainty, and predictability is out of control. But what does the Bible tell us about the desire and the future
«Be anxious for nothing, but that your requests be known before God in all prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. ”, Philippians 4: 6-7
Anxiety disorders and depression are nowadays classified as increasing illnesses, almost as epidemics, that directly affect the physical health of those who suffer from them. Millions of people suffer the effects of these disorders, which are cataloged and studied by various organizations in the world, due to the high incidence on the productivity and quality of life of people (DSM-5 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)
People suffering from depression, for example, can cry at any time, nothing makes them happy, they don’t want to leave home, they just want to be sleeping, they don’t want to talk to anyone, which ultimately leads to a higher degree of depression.
For this, they need prompt help, the book of Proverbs 12:25 “Anguish in the heart of man knocks him down; but the good word gladdens him. ” And this good word is undoubtedly the Word of God, which not only gladdens the heart but also provides an effective solution to heal depression, anxiety and anguish of life.
Jesus taught us to trust God in these moments, explaining to us that it is useless to worry, or to be filled with anxiety, because God takes care of us and provides us for all our needs, even for the most common ones such as food and clothing, thus he does with the birds of the sky, he has a higher priority with us. Let us not worry, therefore, for material things, or for the temporal things of life, God knows what we need and is willing to provide us, but our priority must be the kingdom of God and his justice, so that the rest is added (Matthew 6: 25-34), that is: having a direct, continuous relationship with God, in obedience and love. It is the most important thing for us and this will help us control or heal depression and anxiety.
When any difficulty wants to lead us to anxiety or depression, we must remember that we can take everything in prayer to God, through faith in Christ, and the Peace of God will take care of our mind and heart, then we will experience that peace that surpasses all understanding.
